Government Agencies
Government Partners
US and foreign government sponsors are key partners with the Institute
of International Education in the implementation of its international
education exchange and global development programs. Foremost among
them are two U.S. Government agencies, the U.S. Department of State
and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
U.S. Department of State
For over 55 years, IIE has collaborated with the U.S. Department
of State in the administration of the J. William Fulbright U.S.
and Foreign Student and Scholars programs. IIE currently administers
over forty other programs sponsored by the State Department through
the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, including the Hubert
H. Humphrey Fellowship program, International Visitor Leadership
Program, the Gilman Scholarship Program, and the Open Doors survey.
U.S. Agency for International Development
IIE has also been a strong global development partner with the U.S.
Agency for International Development. With USAID funding and support,
IIE has implemented key training and technical assistance programs
in the economic growth, energy, environment, women in development,
democracy and governance, and global training sectors.
IIE also partners with other U.S. Government agencies, including:
