| Intern or Volunteer with IIE/West Coast
Educational Services Internship
Overview
The Institute of International Education (IIE) is seeking interns
for the IIE West Coast Center. The internships will provide excellent
learning opportunities for anyone interested in international education,
policy, program management and non-profit organizations. An internship
experience with IIE will provide an intern with a unique "behind
the scenes" look at the operations of an international organization.
Past IIE interns have gone on to work for organizations involved
in study abroad, English language training, international student
programs and other areas.
Position
The Educational Services Intern will assist the Educational Services
staff with the administration of the Fulbright foreign student program.
Duties will include data entry, student file maintenance, mailings,
and other administrative duties. The intern will have the opportunity
to learn about general international student services issues, the
J-1 Exchange Visitor visa and grant administration procedures. During
the spring, the intern will assist in planning and preparing for
the annual Fulbright Seminar. The Educational Services intern will
also have the opportunity to assist with other programs as time
allows.
All interns will help oversee the development and
maintenance of IIE's resource library and advise students seeking
information on international study, funding, work and volunteer
opportunities. The positions also include general clerical duties
such as answering phones, greeting visitors, and assisting with
file maintenance. We are flexible and will try to assign projects
and tasks in the areas of interest of interns.
Qualifications
The ideal intern candidate will be a student or recent graduate
who possesses excellent communication skills and has an interest
in a career in international education. Preference is given to individuals
with study or living experience abroad and with demonstrated interest
in international issues. The candidate should be well-organized,
punctual, dependable, flexible, and very detail-oriented. Excellent
computer skills are required. Computer and general training will
